Foundation Update

Although only in existence for a short time, the Foundation has begun to commit its resources to support the education of high school students who are in financial need. Through Loyola Academy of Wilmette, a college preparatory school, an annual “Tony DeRosa” scholarship has been established to fund the cost of tuition of one student for a full year. This scholarship will be funded on an annual basis and awarded by Loyola Academy based on financial need. This outstanding high school attracts students from Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana.

The school has committed to provide ongoing reports of the scholar’s progress. Jeff Smart, Loyola’s Director of Planned and Major Gifts, provided this recent update:

“…Elizabeth comes to the Academy from Chicago’s north side. She is a freshman who enjoys math and English. Elizabeth is a member of the women’s swim team and has been involved with the campus ministry department in the ‘Life-be-in-it’ program. This program assists students in coordinating several community service opportunities, helping the poor in many moving ways. Academically she is doing well and is adjusting to life as a freshman.”

The daughter of immigrants who recently came to this country, Elizabeth would have not been able to attend the Academy if it weren’t for The Tony DeRosa Foundation. This scholarship has clearly made a difference in the life and future of this young woman.

Because of Elizabeth’s dedication to learning and her community, she has been awarded a scholarship for her sophomore year.
